I consider Axure as a very complete tool and at the same time, easy to use, during its trial period we use it (my classmates and me) as a tool to design basic prototypes and some more advanced in the matter. The main benefit of the application is that it allowed us to make prototypes allowing the progress and correction of the project without the need for a complete development PROS The constant updates can be annoying to keep track of, as I often end up with multiple installations instead of a true upgrade, but that could be user error or lack of knowledge of proper Axure updating on my end. Also, it may have limitations when compared with web-based versions when it comes to portability of your source files. I think without some background in those applications, this software may have a learning curve. It was easy for me to get up and running using this software given my background and experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. There are so many pre-made widgets out there as well that can be imported for use right in the prototype, making it truly adaptable to development frameworks, like Google Material Design. The publisher feature of Axure allows you to share prototypes with clients or stakeholders and get feedback from an unique URL. With the use of "behaviors" and "widgets", you can ensure that the stakeholders get a interactive demo BEFORE you start development! I also love the fact that you can have "pages" that when published can mimic a real working website. I love that you can make FUNCTIONAL prototypes with this software! Being able to present a "working prototype" is a huge benefit of this tool.

With two bonding pairs on the central atom. the shape of a molecule is determined by the repulsion of electron pairs. Multiple bonds (double or triple bond) are regarded as one electron group for VSEPR purpose. Despite this, the correct geometry is nearly always predicted, and the exceptions are often rather special cases. Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Theory. For VSEPR purpose, the terms shape and geometry are interchangeable electron pair and electron group are also interchangeable. It's worth noting that the newer JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi model takes the original's sonic capabilities and enhances them a tad further, especially when using the wi-fi connection. Female backing vocals in the later choruses are as present and as ethereal as Prince intended. Prince’s vocal in Sometimes It Snows In April veers between his trademark head and chest voices and both are equally as impactful through the Charge 5, alongside the pared-back keys and guitar. The walking bass guitar that underpins the track feels three-dimensional and is just one of several instruments held in check, alongside whoops from the crowd and occasional drum fills within a cohesive mix.īowed strings in British Sea Power’s melancholy soundscape, Tiger King, are detailed and accurate around the track’s sporadic cymbals and drum crashes, proving the Charge 5 is capable of delicacy and nuance as well as oomph and bass clout.Īny brightness in the Charge 5’s new tweeter melts away once the speaker is run in, leaving only cleaner, clearer treble frequencies. Vocals are also more energised and feel well-placed in what is an expansive mix for a portable speaker of this size.Įrykah Badu’s voice in Tyrone is emotive and as much celebrated through the treble frequencies as through her juicy lower registers. It’s a fairly minor upgrade, but the hip-hop riff intro is marginally more impactful – the leading edges of notes through the low end are crisper, resulting in a more agile performance. We cue up Chamillionaire’s Ridin’ on Tidal and the Charge 5’s extra ounce of prowess over the Charge 4 reveals itself. You can't, sadly, use the PartyBoost feature with the newer Charge 5 Wi-Fi model, a great shame considering how alike the two speakers actually are. It’s a neat feature, although some existing JBL owners may be irked by PartyBoost’s inability to play nicely with the older Connect+ tech. Leaving the app, we press the PartyBoost button on the Charge 5, then on our Flip 5, and sound dutifully comes from both, clearly and with no notable lag. With another Charge 5, you can create a stereo pair by toggling across from “Party” (mono sound) to Stereo when hitting the PartyBoost button, but the app is otherwise basic and doesn’t offer anything by way of EQ optimisation. It’s good for firmware updates and to deploy PartyBoost from your phone, where other app-supported JBL speakers (including the Flip 5) will appear ready to link. There is support for the Charge 5 on the JBL Portable app, formerly called JBL Connect. What you can’t do is link the Charge 5 to the older Charge 4, or any older Connect+ enabled JBL speakers for that matter. JBL’s updated daisy-chaining tech means you can beef up your portable sound by linking the Charge 5 with up to 100 other PartyBoost enabled JBL Bluetooth offerings, although that is currently limited to the Boombox 2, Flip 5 and Pulse 4. The Charge 5 now features a JBL PartyBoost button on the control panel on top of the speaker, too, where the Connect+ button sits on the Charge 4. There is also Bluetooth 5.1 rather than 4.2, but the same 7500mAh battery offers the same 20 hours of playback from a single charge. These units both have dedicated power amplification – 30W for the woofer and 10W for the highs. The 52 x 90mm bass driver is a couple of millimetres wider than before, and there’s a new 20mm tweeter. Under the hood, however, are plenty of improvements. The ends of the Charge 5’s trademark barrel-like bodywork boast a slightly more robust rubberised reinforcement, while the speaker itself is a whole 1mm taller, 2mm deeper, 3mm wider and 5g heavier than its older brother – although there’s little in that to the naked eye. With a large aperture, you will be able to see more stars and see them more clearly. A telescope’s function is to simply enhance the light of the moon, stars and galaxies thus allowing us to see them in the dark. The larger the aperture is, the more light comes in the telescope and the brighter your image will be. Aperture is the diameter of the telescope’s main optical component (consisting of either a lens or mirror). The #1 feature of any telescope is Aperture. What is the MOST Important Feature in a Telescope? You can refer to our guide on how to choose a spotting scope. If you are interested in viewing objects on land or at sea, as well as star gazing, moon watching and astronomy then you should consider a spotting scope. Spotting scopes are commonly used by birdwatchers, hunters, nature observers and amateur astronomers. It is a powerful instrument yet portable and perfect for watching distant subjects on land, at sea or skies. Spotting Scope – A spotting scope is a smaller telescope also designed for terrestrial viewing (land viewing). If you are only interested in astronomy, then buy a telescope otherwise buy a spotting scope which can be used for both astronomy and daytime viewing. They lack the ability to view objects during daytime properly. They have unique optics and light gathering capabilities that allow us to view objects in complete darkness. Telescope – Telescopes are designed for night viewing. While this is a nice thought, unfortunately, it is not a practical one! Before deciding on what to buy, think about what you are interested in viewing the most: Some people want to purchase a telescope for watching the stars as well as watching the neighbour next door. Should I Buy a Telescope or a Spotting Scope? We’ve also short-listed our Top 2 Telescopes for beginners, enthusiasts and amateur astronomers. The following guide explains everything you need to know before buying your first telescope. Beginner shoppers often jump into buying an unsuitable telescope, get frustrated trying to use it and eventually even give up on pursuing astronomy altogether. You can easily find yourself lost in technical jargon and endless options available. Unfortunately buying your first telescope can be an extremely complicated task. Astronomy is an exciting hobby! It ignites our curiosity of the fascinating universe around us. Some drawbacks are that the spout cap comes completely off and is easy to misplace or drop.Īt 6.5 ounces, this is the 2nd heaviest YETI lid. The handle is the same great design as the Standard Lid and is very comfortable and easy to hold. The most important and obvious benefit is how lid solves the glaring problem with the Standard Lid by making it much easier to take drinks of water without splashing water all over your face. It consists of two parts that we’ll call the base and the spout cap. YETI’s Chug Cap is probably the most common replacement lid that people choose to use, and for good reason. So while we love the simplicity of the standard cap and how easy it is to use, it’s definitely the base design for a reason since it does not offer many benefits or uses compared to other lids. And if you have ice in your bottle, all we can say is good luck. Because the opening is so wide, it’s notoriously easy to splash water in your face, especially if you’re in the middle of an activity like driving. Second relates to YETI’s Over-The-Nose technology, which in non-marketing terms just means they made the mouth opening about 1/2” wider than competitors like Hydro Flask. It’s not like a Takeya, which has a connected spout cap. First, the lid is completely separate from the bottle, so it’s pretty easy to misplace or drop the lid, causing it to get dirty. It’s also the most lightweight YETI cap at only 2.9 ounces. This is the best option for anyone who has limited finger strength because the handle is easy to hold, and it lets you get a good amount of leverage to open the cap. The simple, no-frills design is very easy to use, and it’s also easy to clean. The rigid design is wide enough to fit three fingers, making it very comfortable and easy to hold. This was the lid that came out when this water bottle series was initially released, and it’s still the one that comes with most YETI Ramblers bottles today. Before you choose a travel mug for your most important drink of the day, read on to learn which ones we recommend.First is the one that started it all, YETI’s Standard Lid. These are just some of the features to look for in the best travel mugs, but there are others. “Some people prefer a larger capacity for long trips, while others might want something more compact for easy portability.” Of course, the right size for your mug depends on personal preferences and the type of journey you’re planning. “Look for mugs with a secure lid and a reliable sealing mechanism,” says Andrew Kuttow, blogger at. If you’re planning on moving around with your travel mug, you’ll want leak-proof capabilities. Anderson also recommends looking for travel mugs with a straw, which can be removed when drinking something hot but used when drinking iced coffee or poolside cocktails at a resort - and, the reusable straws are a perfect accessory for being a more sustainable traveler. Some of the most important features to look for in a travel mug include double-walled insulation, as well as the ability to keep drinks hot or cold depending on your needs, says Kathryn Anderson, founder of the travel and wellness site Coffee & Mascara. Yeti Rambler, Healthy Human Curve, S'well Each time I said goodbye to the telescope, I thought it would be waiting when I returned.įor many Puerto Ricans, astronomers, and space enthusiasts, Arecibo was more than a telescope. And I’ve watched as dusk washed over the Puerto Rican mountains, summoning the coquí tree frogs to sing their nightly chorus. I’ve seen the same kind of golden light that illuminated Arecibo the morning the telescope collapsed. It was news I’d been dreading, a story I did not want to write. He looked toward the towers, saw a cloud of dust and emptiness, and started screaming.Īnd I saw a tweet go by reporting that the Arecibo platform “ acaba de colapsar”-had just collapsed. Nearby, scientist Jonathan Friedman heard a terrible rumble and ran to the crest of a nearby hill. “My whole life has been at the observatory.” we started to see the eventual downfall of the observatory,” Vazquez said in a video posted on Twitter. “We heard a loud sound, a loud bang outside the control room, and. A catwalk to the platform disintegrated, sending metal and concrete raining down like grotesque confetti.įrom the observatory’s control room, Ángel Vázquez-chief of telescope operations and an observatory employee for more than 40 years-watched as the platform fell. The tops of the three support towers snapped off, sending concrete cascading into nearby ravines and parking lots, while plummeting cables lashed the dish and nearby buildings. The triangular platform swung violently into a rock face and sagged as it came to rest at the cliff’s base. When it fell, the thin-skinned dome smashed through the dish and crumpled. With an enormous roar, the floating platform slipped out of the morning sun and hurtled toward the shaded jungle floor. High above the dish, an enormous 900-ton platform held the equipment needed to focus those radio waves, including a dome filled with a complex reflector system-a structure large enough to engulf a four-story house.īut as the sky brightened on that lavender morning, a crucial cable suspending the platform ruptured-and then another broke, and then another. Its mammoth, 1,000-foot-wide dish made it exquisitely sensitive, able to capture radio waves that wash over Earth with just a millionth of the energy in a falling snowflake. Now, when the sun climbs over those mountains, it shines on the tangled ruins of a scientific and cultural treasure.įor nearly six decades, the Arecibo Observatory was Earth’s largest window to the cosmos. The skies blazed in shades of lilac and dusky rose, and the rising sun cast a warm glow on a giant radio telescope nestled among the karst mountains near the island’s northern shore. There were no injuries reported in connection with the collapse. On the first day of December 2020, dawn in Puerto Rico was spectacular. The NSF said Tuesday morning that the 900-ton platform suspended above the dish collapsed, with initial findings showing the top part of all three of its support towers had broken off. “There was hope there was something that was going to be done about it, then waking up this morning to see that it collapsed was devastating,” said Ramon Misla David, the executive director of Puerto Ricans in STEM.ĭavid’s organization advocated for the petition. In 11 days, more than 59,000 people signed it. Hernandez fought back with his organization, Save the Arecibo Observatory, which created a petition asking Congress to provide funding to repair the telescope. “It’s my favorite spot in the world,” Hernandez said.Īlmost two weeks ago, the National Science Foundation announced it would shut down the 305-meter telescope after engineers said it would be too dangerous to repair it following a pair of cable failures this year. It was originally built for military defense research but then later helped the world understand more about asteroids. Hernandez fell in love with the Arecibo Observatory - the second-largest radio telescope in the world - as thousands of Puerto Ricans have over the past 60 years. “This is where I understood my passion for planetary sciences and aerospace engineering,” Wilbert Hernandez said. By the 1870s, there were no elk left in Pennsylvania. As more and more settlers pushed west, the number of elk diminished. However, before European settlers came to the Americas, elk herds roamed across much of the east coast. Truth be told, I was even surprised that there were elk this far east. When I first started uncovering the many great things to see and do in Pennsylvania, I was surprised to learn that the state was home to the largest elk herd east of the Rockies. We will make a small commission from these links if you order something at no additional cost to you. It was worth a visit if you like wildlife.Disclosure: This article may contain affiliate links. We then drove to the last viewing area (on Rt 555) where there is a wooden blind that you can hide behind to see the elk up close, but the elk weren't there that morning. There was free parking there (actually at all viewing sites) and we got some good photos and videos of the elk in their natural habitat, you can listen to the noises they make and watch them interact with each other. The next viewing area from the Center didn't show any elk, but the 3rd place had elk, about 35 of so of them, in a field on the edge of a forest. The elk were not there at this particular viewing point (it was about 11am), but one can drive your car to the other 4 viewing places in and around the visitor center. There is a viewing area outside of the visitor center a very short walk down a path to a stone wall to look out and view the elk. The movie gives special effects to make it feel like you are out in the fields with the elk. There is an interactive 4D movie, it's $3 per adult, that lasts about 30 mins. Free to look inside where there are a few rooms of activities for kids, info regarding Elks and the herd population, and a gift shop. Plenty of free parking at the Visitor Center. The Elk Country Visitors Center is a must do in Elk County. I would highly recommend that you stop at the visitor center in the morning and make reservations (or call to make reservations) because by the end of the day, they are filled up. So, in about a 45 minute wagon ride, we got to see it all. We saw bull elk chasing females and a few even mated with females. We saw some babies still trying to suckle, but the mother's were pushing them away. We got to see it all! There were nine bull elk in the herd and they were bugling and fighting with their great racks over the females. We visited in the end of October, which is the end of rut season. It was absolutely beautiful and awesome!! The wagon ride took us right into the middle of aġ00+ herd of elk. The center has 10-15 acres where the elk can safely roam (no hunting allowed in the area). They have many viewing areas you can walk to, also.īut, the very best thing to do at the Visitor Center is to sign up for the horse pulled wagon ride to an area where the elk herd often hangs out. And wonderful interactive stations to learn about the history of the elk in Elk County and also history of the area. This center has been open for two years and it is absolutely beautiful! They have a great 3D movie to view. We visited this beautiful Elk County Visitor Center in Benezett, PA in October, 2012. I don't recommend and I am hoping perhaps this organization can revisit another way to take the wagon around the property. It is so wrong and inhumane and seeing the horses suffer are not worth seeing Elk. When we got back the horses had nasal flaring and appeared exhausted and only to have another ride out. They pre-treat the horses with bug spray on the lower legs and give them water and stop intermittently so they can rest during the ride. Yes they are Belgian horses and yes they are breed to work but I don't feel you need to use horses. First, you have a very heavy covered wagon then add 20 -30 200 +lbs adults and 80+ degree temperatures and make these horses carry the wagon and all the people: I think it was horrible treatment to the horses. My problem is the horse drawn covered wagon: I felt sorry for the horses: I can't believe in this day you can't find a eco friendly way of moving the wagon without using horses. We took the horse wagon ride that ran about 30-45 minutes: it takes you to the back side of the visitor center down and back hoping to see Elk: we saw a few as well as wild turkeys. There are approx 1100 Elk in 5 counties of PA size of Yellowstone. The Elk Country visitor center is very nice: beautiful wood and very educational exhibits and large gift shop. |
